Fortnite's 2026 Fortnitemares season is taking shape following this week's October update, with Epic's annual Halloween event bringing another round of horror-themed collaborations, weapons and limited-time content to mobile alongside the console and PC editions. This year's headline crossover includes Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, continuing Fortnite's remarkable transformation into the place where virtually every fictional universe eventually ends up carrying a pickaxe.
Halloween-themed equipment and returning modes are also part of the October programme. For mobile players, the important point is that Fortnite continues to operate as one unified ecosystem: seasonal content, progression and major collaborations arrive across supported platforms rather than treating smartphones as a separate reduced edition. That is increasingly normal for large live-service games but would have sounded wildly ambitious during mobile gaming's earlier years.
Fortnite has become less a battle royale than an extremely elaborate pop-cultural customs checkpoint. Freddy Krueger arriving there therefore feels almost inevitable. The poor man spent decades entering people's dreams; now he has to learn building mechanics.
