Key takeaways
- The ARC X1 enters a rapidly maturing dedicated Android gaming handheld market alongside AYANEO, AYN, Retroid, and Anbernic.
- Combines high refresh rate 120Hz displays, active cooling, modular hardware, and 9,300mAh battery life at competitive pricing.
- Positions Android handhelds as accessible alternatives to expensive x86 PC handhelds for emulation, native games, and cloud streaming.
Today's ARC X1 reservation opening also highlights just how quickly dedicated Android handheld gaming has matured into a hardware category of its own. The X1's seven-inch 1080p 120Hz display, Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 processor, active cooling and 9,300mAh battery would have looked almost absurdly specialised only a few years ago. Now it arrives in a market populated by increasingly sophisticated devices from AYANEO, AYN, Retroid, Anbernic and others.
ARC is differentiating itself with OwlOS, modular hardware elements and replaceable sticks and battery, while targeting Indian buyers first. That last point may be the most important. Premium handheld PCs remain expensive in India, while Android hardware can combine native games, emulation and cloud streaming at substantially lower power requirements. The X1 is not attempting to outperform a Steam Deck in x86 PC games; it is offering a different balance of portability, endurance and Android flexibility.
ARC still has plenty to prove - particularly software polish, thermal behaviour and after-sales support - because specifications are considerably easier to manufacture than a trustworthy hardware ecosystem. But today's reservation launch adds another serious participant to a category that no longer looks remotely niche.
