Smilegate's Epic Seven is preparing for another major competitive weekend, with today's update introducing Mei Lin as a collaboration character from Chaos Zero Nightmare. Mei Lin becomes the third character from that crossover to join the game, following Haru and Renoa. Meanwhile, the Epic Seven World Championship 2026 begins its Group Stage on October 10. Twenty-eight players have qualified for the competition, with matches scheduled across October 10 and 11 and October 17 and 18.
Competitors will be divided into four-player groups using a double-elimination format, with the leading two players from each group progressing to the Knockout Stage. Epic Seven Masters winner Hazamarei and runner-up MagicQi already hold direct places in that later stage. The tournament carries a total prize pool of $100,000, including $50,000 for the champion. The eventual winner will also receive an unusual reward: a special in-game costume created for a hero of their choosing.
The championship final is scheduled for November 28 in Seoul. Epic Seven occupies an interesting position in mobile esports because its competitive appeal comes from turn-based strategy rather than lightning-fast reflexes. Team composition, equipment, drafting and the ability to anticipate an opponent's decisions all matter enormously. It is essentially competitive chess, except the pieces occasionally summon enormous magical explosions and the opening moves may depend on several months of character development.
