Key takeaways

  • OnePlus 16 features 4th-gen Oriental Screen with 165Hz standard and 185Hz gaming refresh rate.
  • Equipped with 9,000mAh Glacier Battery supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
  • Includes dedicated P4 display processor to maximize motion clarity in compatible titles.

OnePlus has revealed additional specifications for its upcoming OnePlus 16, including a 9,000mAh battery and an unusually fast display developed with BOE. The handset launches in China on October 12 and is being positioned heavily around sustained gaming performance. Its fourth-generation Oriental Screen uses BOE's X4 display technology, supporting a system-wide refresh rate of 165Hz and increasing to 185Hz in compatible games.

OnePlus says the new display architecture maintains power consumption comparable to the previous generation's 120Hz operation, although those efficiency claims still require independent verification. The device also features a dedicated P4 display processor designed to improve motion clarity and responsiveness. Battery specifications are equally ambitious.

The 9,000mAh silicon-based Glacier Battery supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, with a dedicated power-management chip intended to preserve battery health over several years. For mobile gamers, the combination addresses two familiar frustrations: inconsistent frame rates and batteries that surrender before an extended gaming session finishes. However, a 185Hz screen does not mean every game will actually run at 185 frames per second.

Software support, thermal limits and individual game engines remain important. OnePlus has also not announced a European release, and the company's withdrawal from several Western markets complicates international availability. Nevertheless, the OnePlus 16 demonstrates how aggressively smartphone manufacturers are now competing on gaming endurance. Apparently the new battery-capacity target is simply to make power banks feel personally insulted.
