Innersloth is taking Among Us somewhere rather unexpected: into a single-player detective adventure where you can no longer blame your friends for being suspicious. Among Us Story: On Guard is scheduled to arrive on iOS and Android on February 17, 2027, transforming the familiar social-deduction formula into a narrative mystery. Players assume the role of a security guard aboard a spacecraft where a mysterious murder has occurred.

Unfortunately, suspicion quickly falls on the guard, leaving players with the unenviable responsibility of identifying the actual Impostor before somebody decides that ejecting them into space would be a sensible administrative solution. The gameplay combines crime-scene investigation, evidence collection, conversations with crewmates and familiar Among Us-style minigames. Three possible endings encourage players to revisit the investigation and explore alternative decisions.

The project represents an interesting commercial experiment for Innersloth. Among Us became a global phenomenon largely because of its unpredictable human interactions, so removing multiplayer could have eliminated the very thing that made the original successful. Instead, the developers are using the established universe to explore a different genre while retaining its distinctive visual identity and suspicious little astronauts.

It is also a sensible way to expand the franchise without competing directly with the original game. Whether the mystery proves genuinely compelling remains to be seen, but at least players will finally have an opportunity to investigate a murder without somebody interrupting the meeting to accuse Red for absolutely no reason.
