OnePlus officially launched its OnePlus 16 flagship smartphone in China on October 12, revealing a device that appears determined to make conventional smartphone batteries look like emergency backup supplies. The handset features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, configurations offering up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and a substantial 9000mAh silicon-carbon battery. Charging support includes 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The gaming specifications are particularly ambitious.

Its OLED display supports a refresh rate of up to 185Hz in compatible games, while the wider system interface can operate at up to 165Hz. OnePlus is also promoting its gaming-focused software optimisations, although independent testing will be necessary to establish sustained frame rates and thermal performance. The camera system receives significant improvements too, including a 200-megapixel main camera with a larger sensor and brighter aperture, accompanied by 50-megapixel ultrawide and telephoto cameras.

A distinctive silver model features illuminated decorative elements that can respond to notifications and battery status. Chinese pricing begins at CNY 5699, approximately $850 before regional taxes and currency differences. Unfortunately for European and American consumers, OnePlus has withdrawn from those markets and is not planning an official launch there. Importing remains a possibility, but buyers should investigate network compatibility, warranty arrangements and software support carefully.

For mobile gamers in supported markets, the OnePlus 16 offers a fascinating combination of extreme display specifications and unusually generous battery capacity. Whether 185 frames per second makes anyone better at competitive shooters is another question entirely.
