Poncle's Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors is now available on iOS and Android, confirming the arrival of its unusual combination of first-person dungeon exploration and turn-based card combat. The game originally launched on PC and consoles in April and transforms the familiar Vampire Survivors formula into something considerably more strategic. Rather than moving around while weapons attack automatically, players assemble decks containing attacks, abilities and magical effects.
The order in which cards are played determines the combinations activated during combat. Weapons can be improved using gems, while particular combinations unlock powerful Fusions. The TurboTurn system allows experienced players to accelerate combat animations and unleash elaborate sequences without waiting for every individual effect to finish. Exploration takes place across environments including catacombs, mechanical dungeons and ruined structures.
The mobile launch also coincides with the free Death Parade update, introducing two additional playable characters, Big Troubler and Sir Ambrojoe. Four new cards, four Arcanas and the Moongolow Challenge Stage provide further opportunities for experimentation. The game costs $9.99 on both mobile storefronts. Vampire Crawlers is an interesting example of a successful franchise expanding into another genre without abandoning its established identity.
Its card-based mechanics should also work naturally with touchscreen controls, making the mobile adaptation more than a simple technical conversion. The original Vampire Survivors taught players that sufficient garlic could solve almost any problem. Vampire Crawlers now suggests that careful planning and an increasingly unreasonable collection of magical playing cards might be even more effective.
