Key takeaways

  • Tencent supplies roughly 75% of a $46 million funding package for Istanbul-based Flow Games.
  • Studio's title Smash Fest surged from 2 million downloads in June to 10.2 million in July 2026.
  • Reflects continuing strategic investments into Türkiye's thriving mobile gaming ecosystem.

Chinese gaming giant Tencent is continuing its investment activity in Türkiye, with Istanbul-based Flow Games securing a funding package valued at approximately $46 million. The transaction was reported by PocketGamer.biz on October 13, citing a source familiar with the arrangement. Approximately three-quarters of the financing reportedly comes from Tencent. Flow Games is the developer behind Smash Fest, a physics-based mobile shooter that has experienced substantial download growth during 2026.

According to AppMagic estimates cited in the report, Smash Fest attracted approximately 2 million downloads in June before reaching 10.2 million in July, an increase of 343 percent. Estimated in-app purchase revenue climbed from $692000 to $3.4 million over the same period. Lifetime player spending was estimated at almost $8.9 million, although advertising reportedly represents the majority of the game's overall revenue.

That distinction matters because in-app purchase figures alone can substantially underestimate the commercial performance of advertising-supported mobile games. Tencent's investment reflects its continuing interest in Turkish developers, which have become increasingly influential in casual and hybrid-casual gaming. The company previously participated in financing Circle Games, while subsidiary Miniclip acquired Turkish developer Masomo in 2019.

For the wider mobile industry, the transaction demonstrates that investors remain willing to support studios capable of acquiring large audiences efficiently. However, impressive download figures do not automatically translate into sustainable profitability. Retention, advertising revenue and development costs remain crucial. Flow Games has clearly attracted attention with Smash Fest.

The next challenge will be demonstrating that its success represents a repeatable business rather than one particularly fortunate hit.
