  • Rebuilding Uta Macross for iOS, Android, and PC with free character gacha draws.
  • Features 50+ songs, 1000+ rarity plates, and over 20 costumes per singer.

The campaign to revive the discontinued mobile rhythm game Uta Macross Smartphone De Culture has passed JPY 139 million in crowdfunding contributions, demonstrating that devoted fans are willing to invest substantial amounts in preserving a beloved gaming experience. The milestone was announced on October 14 by project organiser AUGUST. Uta Macross originally allowed players to enjoy songs and characters from the long-running Macross anime franchise through rhythm-based gameplay and elaborate musical performances.

The revival project aims to rebuild the experience for iOS, Android and PC rather than simply restarting the original online service. The developers plan to preserve familiar illustrations and performance sequences while adapting the game systems for modern platforms. The basic package is expected to contain approximately fifty songs, more than one thousand collectible plates of four-star rarity or higher, and over twenty costumes for each featured singer.

Importantly, the revived version will make character-enhancement gacha draws free rather than relying on the original monetisation structure. Additional songs, costumes and collectible content are planned through downloadable expansions. The crowdfunding campaign has now surpassed its JPY 135 million stretch goal, allowing the accompanying art book to be expanded. A further goal of JPY 150 million could support development for additional console platforms.

Two new supporter reward packages have also been introduced, featuring printed story material and collectible merchandise. The campaign continues until October 31. Beyond the impressive fundraising total, the project raises an important question about game preservation. Mobile games frequently disappear when their servers close, taking years of creative work with them. Macross fans are demonstrating that an enthusiastic community can sometimes give a discontinued game another opportunity to perform.
