  • Features folding dual IPS displays: 4.7-inch top screen (1200x720) and 4-inch lower touchscreen (960x720).
  • Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 with active fan cooling and a 6000mAh battery.
  • Priced from $299 for 8GB/128GB up to $364.99 for 12GB/256GB, with shipping slated for December 10.

Anbernic has revealed additional specifications and reported pricing for its forthcoming RG DDS handheld, a device that looks remarkably like a Nintendo 3DS after spending several years at the gym. The RG DDS, short for Dream Dual Screen, features two displays arranged inside a folding clamshell design. Its upper screen measures 4.7 inches with a resolution of 1200 by 720 pixels, while the lower touchscreen measures 4 inches with a resolution of 960 by 720 pixels.

Both panels use IPS technology and reportedly reach 500 nits of brightness. Power comes from Qualcomm's Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 processor, accompanied by active cooling and a 6000mAh battery. Physical controls include dual analogue sticks, a directional pad, shoulder buttons and a retractable stylus. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. The device is primarily designed for Android gaming and retro emulation, with promotional demonstrations showing several different emulator environments.

However, promotional footage should not be mistaken for independent performance testing. Recent reporting indicates two planned configurations: an 8GB RAM model with 128GB storage for approximately $299 and a 12GB model with 256GB storage for $364.99. Shipping is reportedly expected around December 10, although buyers should verify final availability directly with the manufacturer.

The RG DDS enters an increasingly competitive market for dual-screen handhelds, where manufacturers are attempting to recreate the appeal of classic Nintendo hardware using modern Android components. Its strongest attraction may be the combination of familiar controls and relatively affordable pricing. Whether the finished device can deliver smooth emulation across demanding systems remains to be established.

Still, anyone who misses carrying a miniature folding games console in their pocket now has another interesting option.
