Publisher Raw Fury and developer Fool Moon have announced that Hillthorn will launch on November 10, 2026, bringing an unusual card-based mystery adventure to iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch and PC. The release date was revealed during The MIX Fall Showcase on October 16. Hillthorn follows an investigator searching for a missing child in an isolated mountain community.

Unfortunately, the local inhabitants are not particularly interested in helping outsiders, and the investigation becomes increasingly complicated as players uncover clues about the disappearance. Rather than relying on conventional dialogue, the game communicates its story through illustrated cards. Players examine evidence, combine clues and explore different investigative possibilities to gradually understand what happened. The absence of spoken dialogue makes visual interpretation central to the experience.

Time is another important mechanic. Players cannot necessarily investigate every available lead, forcing them to decide which clues deserve attention and which opportunities may have to be abandoned. The game also appears to incorporate opportunities to revisit previously explored locations, although doing so may involve additional consequences. Its atmosphere combines elements of folk horror, detective fiction and experimental storytelling.

Hillthorn could prove particularly well suited to touchscreen devices because selecting, arranging and examining cards translates naturally to mobile interfaces. However, its success will depend on whether the mystery remains understandable without conventional conversations or extensive written explanations. For players who enjoy unusual narrative games, the premise is certainly intriguing.

It also demonstrates why investigating a missing person in a suspicious mountain village is probably not the ideal assignment for somebody who dislikes awkward social situations.
