Pokémon TCG Pocket Unveils Dual Fusion Expansion With First-Ever Dual-Type Cards

Pokémon TCG Pocket is preparing to shake up its digital card battles with the announcement of Dual Fusion, a major expansion arriving on October 29, 2026. The new collection introduces dual-type Pokémon cards for the first time, potentially changing how players approach deck construction and competitive battles. Mega Mewtwo X ex combines Psychic and Fighting attributes, while Mega Greninja ex brings together Water and Darkness.

Familiar favourites including Pikachu, Charizard, Venusaur and Blastoise will also receive new cards and illustrations. The expansion forms part of the game's second-anniversary celebrations, but the developers have considerably more planned than simply introducing another collection of expensive-looking cardboard. Six rental decks will allow players to experiment with new strategies without immediately collecting every required card. A Dragon-type elite deck featuring Mega Rayquaza ex will also be distributed.

Another significant addition is the introduction of Special Packs. The first collection, First Partners, begins on October 31 and features starter Pokémon from nine regions. These packs use a separate stamina system that replenishes weekly, with every pack guaranteeing at least one star-rarity card. Meanwhile, the Pika Pika! Pikachu Missions campaign runs from October 20, 2026, until October 20, 2027. Players who log in on ten days during the campaign can obtain an exclusive immersive Pikachu ex card.

The combination of new battle mechanics, improved accessibility and anniversary rewards represents a substantial update for the mobile card game. Apparently collecting Pokémon was not complicated enough already, so now some of them have decided to belong to two types simultaneously.
