Scopely has retained its position as the leading mobile gaming publisher in the United States by revenue, according to new third-quarter figures reported by Sensor Tower. The company generated approximately $507 million during the period across in-app purchases, advertising and direct web-store transactions. Although the figure represents a decline of approximately two percent compared with the previous quarter, it remains comfortably ahead of competing publishers.
Century Games climbed to second place with approximately $280 million, while Niantic returned to the top ten following a substantial improvement in performance. Niantic's reported US revenue increased by 106 percent to approximately $189 million, supported by renewed interest in Pokémon Go during its tenth-anniversary celebrations. Sensor Tower estimates that Pokémon Go approximately doubled its US net in-app purchase revenue between the second and third quarters.
Seasonal factors also contributed to the improvement. Microfun occupied eighth place with approximately $186 million, largely supported by Gossip Harbor. The rankings demonstrate how strongly the American mobile market is influenced by a relatively small collection of successful live-service franchises. They also highlight the growing importance of direct-to-consumer transactions, which allow publishers to maintain commercial relationships with players outside conventional app-store payment systems.
However, the reported figures combine several revenue channels and should not be compared directly with estimates covering only App Store and Google Play purchases. For Scopely, the results reinforce its commercial leadership despite a modest quarterly decline. Apparently owning the most successful mobile gaming properties remains a highly effective way to avoid worrying about the next month's electricity bill.
