The Pocket AIS reaches its announced October 24 launch date, giving retro-gaming enthusiasts another compact handheld to consider in an increasingly crowded market. Developed by AISLPC, the device combines a 4.5-inch IPS display with a traditional 4:3 aspect ratio and 1024-by-768 resolution. That configuration is particularly attractive for classic console and arcade games originally designed for older television formats.

Unlike widescreen handhelds that frequently display large borders around retro titles, the Pocket AIS can present many older games in proportions much closer to their original appearance. Processing duties are handled by the Rockchip RK3562, supported by 2GB of RAM, active cooling and expandable microSD storage. AISLPC also includes dual analogue sticks, Hall-effect linear triggers, vibration, Wi-Fi 6, stereo speakers and a 4000mAh battery.

The manufacturer advertises support for several classic platforms, including Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PSP and arcade systems. Actual performance will naturally depend on the emulator, individual game and configuration. Buyers should not assume that every title from every advertised platform will run flawlessly. The handheld's appeal lies primarily in its combination of portability, traditional screen proportions and relatively straightforward operation.

Pricing has been advertised around $169, although regional prices and storage configurations vary. Pre-orders opened on October 15, with October 24 designated as the official launch date. At the time of this edition, that schedule is confirmed by the manufacturer, but completed shipments have not been independently verified. The Pocket AIS is unlikely to challenge premium Android handhelds in raw performance. Nevertheless, retro gaming has never been exclusively about processor speed.

Sometimes the most important specification is simply having a screen that makes a thirty-year-old game look the way everyone remembers it.
