Japanese mobile word-battle RPG Kotodaman is preparing its third collaboration with Neon Genesis Evangelion, introducing another collection of characters inspired by the legendary anime franchise. Publisher MIXI announced the event on October 28, confirming that it will begin on October 30 and continue until November 20. The collaboration introduces a special version of Rei with long hair, alongside additional characters and combinations inspired by the Evangelion films.

Featured additions include Shinji versus Gendo, Shinji wielding the Spear of Gaius, Asuka in her Yamato Operation appearance, Misato, Mari and a combined Ritsuko and Maya character. Players will also have opportunities to obtain Kaworu in his commander uniform through a dedicated promotional package. Earlier Evangelion collaboration content will return, providing another opportunity to recruit characters and participate in previously available quests.

Kotodaman is unusual because its combat system revolves around constructing Japanese words, combining language knowledge with character abilities and strategic planning. That distinctive mechanic has helped the game establish a recognisable identity within Japan's crowded mobile market. Evangelion provides an attractive crossover partner because its characters and imagery remain popular across multiple generations of anime enthusiasts.

However, international players should remember that Kotodaman is primarily oriented toward Japanese-language gameplay. Understanding the language mechanics is therefore an important consideration before attempting to participate. The event offers established players additional opportunities to develop their collections while revisiting familiar characters. Apparently humanity's final defence against mysterious extraterrestrial threats now depends on spelling correctly.

Considering Evangelion's history, that may actually be one of the more sensible strategies attempted.
