MIXI's Japanese mobile word-battle RPG Kotodaman begins its third collaboration with the Evangelion franchise today, introducing another collection of characters and special activities inspired by the influential anime series. The event is scheduled to run from October 30 at approximately 16:00 Japanese time until November 20. New recruitment characters include a long-haired version of Rei, Shinji confronting Gendo, Shinji wielding the Spear of Gaius and Asuka in her Yamato Operation appearance.

Additional characters include Misato, Mari and a combined Ritsuko and Maya unit. Players can also obtain a special version of Kaworu through a dedicated promotional package. Earlier Evangelion collaboration characters and quests return during the event, giving participants another opportunity to revisit content from previous campaigns. Kotodaman distinguishes itself from conventional mobile RPGs through a combat system based on constructing Japanese words.

Players combine characters and letters to create meaningful expressions, with successful combinations influencing attacks and other gameplay effects. That makes the Evangelion collaboration particularly interesting because the franchise's complex mythology is being adapted into a game where vocabulary is as important as combat strength. However, the title remains heavily oriented toward Japanese-language gameplay, which may present challenges for international audiences.

The collaboration had been announced earlier in the week, but today's scheduled activation represents the next stage of the event. Players should verify the latest in-game notices for precise availability and recruitment conditions. Apparently the Evangelion pilots have discovered a new method of defending humanity. Instead of relying entirely on enormous robots, they must now demonstrate that they paid attention during language lessons.
