Google I/O goes live with Android, XR and Gemini shaping the next mobile gaming layer
Google I/O 2026 is live today, with Android 17, Gemini Intelligence, Android XR and Googlebook updates setting the wider mobile-platform agenda.
Google I/O 2026 is live today, and mobile gaming developers should care even if there is no single blockbuster game reveal. Android is the platform under a massive share of global mobile games, so changes around Android 17, Gemini Intelligence, Android XR, Googlebook and cross-device workflows can shape how games are built and played.
The official I/O schedule lists the Google keynote and developer keynote for 19 May, while Google’s Android pre-show has already framed Gemini Intelligence as coming across phones, watches, laptops and cars. For games, the most interesting angle is form factor. Phones, XR glasses, Android laptops, cars and smart displays are all becoming part of one Android-adjacent ecosystem. Developers who think only in terms of one phone screen may start missing where players actually spend time.
