Nintendo has surprised mobile players with Pictonico!, a new free-to-start Android and iOS game launching on 28 May. The concept sounds like WarioWare got into your camera roll: take photos, then let the game twist them into quick, absurd mini-games. The Google Play page says players can try some mini-games for free, then buy volumes to unlock up to 80 mini-games in total. Nintendo also says photos are not sent to Nintendo, which is exactly the privacy line a photo-based mobile game needs to communicate clearly.
The more interesting part is the developer pairing. Nintendo is co-developing Pictonico! with Intelligent Systems, the studio behind Fire Emblem, Paper Mario and WarioWare. That makes the silliness feel intentional rather than random.
