The Completionist: 1980–1989 turns magazine deadlines into an iOS idle sim

The Completionist: 1980–1989 is today’s strangest but most charming iOS launch. Frosty Pop’s simulation game puts players in charge of a pop-culture magazine during the golden age of print, complete with Commodore-style visuals, Kanban workflow, writers, editors, researchers, deadlines and the constant threat of going broke. Instead of farming crops or fighting monsters, you commission stories about the movies, music, games and news that defined the 1980s.

It is part idle game, part workflow sim and part nostalgic business toy. That makes it a smart mobile fit because the loop can be checked in short bursts: assign work, publish, earn, hire, prestige and repeat. For players who like tycoon games but want something more specific than yet another café, theme park or idle factory, this is a nice little left-field release.
