App stores removed 2.2m apps for security violations in 2025

Google and Apple removed almost 2.2 million apps for security violations in 2025, according to Surfshark data cited by MobileGamer.biz. Games made up 18% of App Store removals in both 2024 and 2025. The app stores may look like endless shelves, but behind the scenes there is a giant broom sweeping out fraud, privacy issues and obsolete software.
