D2C mobile game revenues reach $17bn
A new Appcharge/GDC report says direct-to-consumer monetisation accounts for about $17bn of the mobile games IAP market.
Direct-to-consumer mobile gaming revenue is now estimated at $17 billion, which is a very loud sign that publishers are tired of sending every transaction through the app-store toll booth. The real prize is not just avoiding fees; it is owning player relationships, data, offers and pricing. The app stores are still giants, but web shops are officially lifting weights.
