Google Pixel Tag leak points to AirTag rival using Find Hub

A leak has revealed what appears to be Google's long-awaited Pixel Tag, a compact Bluetooth tracker designed to compete with Apple's AirTag and other item-finding accessories. The reported device uses a pill-shaped form, includes a built-in speaker and is expected to connect with Google's Find Hub network. That network allows compatible Android devices to help locate lost objects by anonymously detecting nearby trackers and relaying their position.

A colour called Fog Light has also appeared in the leak, although additional finishes may be announced. The Pixel Tag is expected to be revealed during Google's hardware event on 12 August, so the design and feature list should still be treated as unconfirmed until the company makes an official announcement. A first-party tracker would give Google greater control over setup, security and integration than relying only on accessories from partners.

It could also strengthen the Android finding network by encouraging more users to participate. Important questions remain around battery replacement, ultra-wideband support, unwanted-tracking alerts and compatibility with older phones. If Google addresses those areas well, Pixel Tag could become a simple but strategically important addition to the Pixel ecosystem and a more direct Android alternative to Apple's highly integrated tracking experience.
