Konami will release Suikoden Star Leap on iOS and Android in Japan on 7 August, bringing the role-playing series back with a new free-to-play adventure. The story begins in a lakeside village east of the Scarlet Moon Empire after an attack leaves the settlement in ruins. A new hero and companions Hisui, Shirin and Shapur become involved in a larger conflict connected to the Rune of Change, one of the world's 27 True Runes.
As tradition demands, players will be able to recruit 108 Stars, creating a large cast for turn-based battles and story development. Familiar characters including Viktor, Flik and Odessa also appear, linking the mobile project to earlier entries. The game uses detailed pixel-art environments and character sprites, preserving an important part of Suikoden's visual identity while introducing new systems for mobile play. A pre-launch broadcast is scheduled for 6 August, one day before release.
Konami has not announced a global launch, leaving fans outside Japan uncertain about when they will be able to play. Star Leap's reception will depend on whether its free-to-play design respects the series' emphasis on ensemble storytelling, political conflict and meaningful recruitment rather than reducing the 108 Stars to a simple collection mechanic.
