Samsung's new generation of foldable phones has reportedly delivered the company's strongest Galaxy pre-order performance in seven years. The Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra have generated unusually high early demand, giving Samsung a strong start as the devices move into general retail availability. Foldables remain far more expensive than mainstream smartphones, so strong pre-orders are notable in a market where many consumers are extending upgrade cycles.

Samsung has worked to address long-standing concerns by reducing weight, refining hinges, widening displays and improving software designed for multitasking. The 2026 lineup also gives buyers clearer segmentation, with the Fold8 Ultra serving users willing to pay even more for a larger screen and stronger camera hardware. Pre-order records do not automatically guarantee sustained sales, since early adopters tend to be more enthusiastic than the broader market.

Still, the numbers suggest foldables are becoming less experimental and more accepted as premium mainstream devices. Competitors including Motorola, HONOR and several Chinese manufacturers are also pushing the category forward, which may be helping consumer confidence. Samsung now has to convert the initial excitement into steady demand after launch promotions and trade-in incentives become less aggressive.
