Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 is entering its first full weekend of general availability, giving consumers their first opportunity to use the company's wider book-style foldable outside the pre-order period. The device opens into a 7.6-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, a significant change from the tall and narrow proportions associated with earlier Fold generations. That shape is particularly relevant for multitasking, reading and gaming because two apps can sit side by side with less compromise.

The phone weighs 201 grams and uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, positioning it firmly as a flagship device. Samsung has also refined One UI 9 around the larger screen, with split-screen and floating-window tools designed to make better use of the additional space. At a starting price of $1,899.99 in the United States, expectations are extremely high. Buyers are not simply paying for a phone but for the promise of a small tablet that can still fit in a pocket.

The first weekend of retail availability will provide an early indication of whether the Fold8's wider design can attract users who previously considered foldables too awkward or specialised for everyday use.
