Playdigious has confirmed that Absolum will launch for iOS and Android on November 5. The mobile edition adapts Dotemu, Guard Crush Games and Supamonks' roguelite beat-'em-up with a redesigned interface and full touchscreen support while retaining controller compatibility. Android users are also promised cross-progression with PC through Google Play Games, and cloud saving is supported across mobile devices.
Most importantly, the game remains a premium buy-once release rather than being rebuilt around free-to-play progression. Absolum combines arcade-style side-scrolling combat with roguelite upgrades and supports two-player online cooperative play. Its announcement arrives at a good moment for premium mobile gaming: Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris launched this week, while other console-style titles are also moving onto smartphones.
The market will remain dominated by free-to-play games, but publishers such as Playdigious continue to demonstrate that there is a meaningful audience for complete, high-quality games on phones.
