iPhone Duo officially opens Apple's foldable era

Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, announced at its September event and priced from $1,999. The passport-shaped device uses a 5.4-inch outer screen and opens to reveal a 7.6-inch internal display capable of running two applications side by side. It is powered by Apple's new A20 Pro processor and C2 cellular modem and includes a redesigned thermal system intended to support sustained AI and graphics workloads.
Apple Pencil support gives the larger inner display additional productivity potential, while Touch ID is integrated into the side button. Storage extends up to 2TB. The Duo becomes one of Apple's most important hardware changes since the iPhone X because it introduces an entirely new physical format rather than simply updating annual specifications. Foldables still represent a relatively small portion of global smartphone shipments, but Apple's enormous installed base could rapidly increase mainstream interest.
Retail availability begins October 23.
