iQOO Pad Ultra Blurs the Line Between Android Tablet and Handheld

iQOO's upcoming Pad Ultra demonstrates how Android tablets are increasingly borrowing ideas from dedicated gaming handhelds. The compact 8.8-inch device weighs around 298 grams and can be paired with detachable controls that effectively transform the tablet into a large handheld gaming system. Promotional material also shows a protective case with grip-style accessories, reinforcing iQOO's intention to build a complete gaming ecosystem around the hardware.

Smaller tablets occupy an increasingly attractive niche: their displays provide more usable space than phones without the bulk of conventional 11- or 13-inch tablets. Adding physical controls makes them particularly suitable for cloud gaming, emulation and Android titles with controller support. The Pad Ultra is due to launch in China alongside the iQOO 16 on September 29.

Pricing and international availability will determine its wider impact, but the concept illustrates how quickly the distinction between smartphone accessories, tablets and dedicated handheld consoles is beginning to disappear.
