Square Enix has launched an ambitious crossover between Dragon Quest Walk and Final Fantasy XIV, bringing two of Japan's most recognisable RPG franchises together in a location-based mobile adventure. Beginning November 2, the collaboration introduces a storyline involving mysterious dimensional disturbances, falling meteorites and a powerful new enemy known as Bahamut Lambda.

Players encounter familiar Final Fantasy XIV characters including Alpha, Omega and Moogles while participating in special activities inspired by the MMORPG. The crossover also introduces mechanics and presentation elements associated with Final Fantasy XIV, including encounters inspired by its F.A.T.E. system. Bahamut Lambda appears as a challenging Gigamonster encounter, providing opportunities for experienced players to test their carefully developed characters.

The event arrives alongside the introduction of Chapter 19 of Dragon Quest Walk's main storyline, making this a particularly substantial update. A collaboration login campaign offers up to 1,400 Gems during its first phase, while additional rewards become available through bingo missions and special challenges. Two optional collaboration passes provide additional benefits, with the more expensive Collector's Edition including Moogle-themed cosmetic equipment and exclusive rewards.

The event continues through November 30, with additional activities scheduled for November 17. Dragon Quest Walk has maintained a dedicated audience by combining traditional RPG progression with real-world exploration. Apparently Square Enix has decided that walking to the supermarket is considerably more exciting when an enormous Final Fantasy dragon is waiting somewhere along the route.
