Kakao Games is moving to acquire a 39.56% stake in South Korean social-casino and casual-games company Me2on for approximately $71.5 million. The transaction values Me2on at roughly $181 million and is scheduled to close in November. More than 80% of Me2on's revenue came from overseas markets last year, making its international publishing network particularly attractive to Kakao Games.

The acquisition represents Kakao's first major M&A transaction under its new management structure and gives the publisher greater exposure to social casino, casual and mind-sports categories. That diversification matters because Korean publishers have traditionally been strongly associated with RPGs and MMORPGs, genres facing intense competition and high user-acquisition costs. Kakao says Me2on's publishing capabilities can also support broader overseas expansion.

The deal is another example of consolidation continuing across mobile gaming even after the industry's post-pandemic investment correction, with buyers increasingly targeting established cash-generating businesses rather than speculative early-stage studios.
