OVER RUSH Mobile Open Beta Puts NHN PlayArt's High-Speed Card RPG to the Test

NHN PlayArt's new mobile RPG OVER RUSH is now in open beta in Japan, giving Android and iOS players their first substantial opportunity to test its unusual combination of card battles, deck building and fast real-time presentation. The test began September 17 and continues through September 24.

Set in the futuristic Sync City, OVER RUSH casts players alongside AI robot companions known as Buddies and builds battles around rapidly chaining coloured cards rather than the slower turn-by-turn pacing normally associated with card RPGs. Roguelike deck-building elements mean the available tactical options can change as a run develops, while elaborate attacks give the game the visual energy of a conventional action RPG.

The beta is currently restricted to Japan, and NHN PlayArt has not yet confirmed a global launch schedule. Even so, the test is worth watching internationally because the publisher is using Tokyo Game Show week to put considerable attention behind its smartphone portfolio. OVER RUSH therefore arrives as more than another regional test: it is an early look at whether card mechanics can be made fast enough to appeal to action-oriented mobile players without losing their underlying strategic depth.
