OnePlus 16 Pushes Toward 165Hz Gaming Across Every App

OnePlus has begun teasing its next flagship in China with an unusually gaming-focused display claim: the OnePlus 16 will use a 165Hz panel and the company says that refresh rate can be enabled across applications rather than being restricted to selected system interfaces. That distinction matters because high-refresh-rate phone specifications often look impressive on paper while games or third-party apps operate at much lower limits.

The handset will also be among the first devices to ship with ColorOS 17 based on Android 17 in China. Certification information points toward 100W wired charging, while earlier reports have suggested a very large battery, although final capacity should be treated as unconfirmed until the full launch. For mobile gaming, 165Hz is approaching the point where display capability exceeds what many demanding games can consistently render, but it can still benefit competitive titles and general responsiveness.

The more important story may therefore be OnePlus trying to remove software restrictions around the panel. If developers and the operating system can actually sustain those frame rates, the OnePlus 16 could become one of the year's more interesting mainstream alternatives to dedicated gaming phones.
