Key takeaways

  • Manjuu's Azur Promilia is continuing its third major Chinese closed beta, the Journey Test, across iOS, Android and PC.
  • The paid, data-wipe test is widely viewed as one of the project's most important pre-launch milestones and gives selected players access to its large open world, creature system and active three-character combat.
  • Technical performance during this beta may therefore be as important as content feedback, particularly if the developer wants the eventual Android release to support more than a narrow selection of flagship devices.

Manjuu's Azur Promilia is continuing its third major Chinese closed beta, the Journey Test, across iOS, Android and PC. The paid, data-wipe test is widely viewed as one of the project's most important pre-launch milestones and gives selected players access to its large open world, creature system and active three-character combat. Players take the role of a Starborn and collect creatures called Kibo while exploring, building relationships and engaging with housing and crafting systems.

Combat combines character switching with active skills, ultimates, dodging and parrying, placing considerably greater demands on touch controls than automated RPGs. The test matters because Azur Promilia is attempting to combine several of mobile gaming's most ambitious current trends at once: open-world exploration, creature collecting, life simulation and high-end action combat. Manjuu has not confirmed a global launch date.

Technical performance during this beta may therefore be as important as content feedback, particularly if the developer wants the eventual Android release to support more than a narrow selection of flagship devices.
