Key takeaways

  • Krafton and developer Ashforge Game are testing BLAST: Gun Shooting Game 5v5 on Android in India, and the most interesting part may be how aggressively the project is targeting ordinary phones rather than flagship hardware.
  • Higher-end devices can reportedly reach up to 120fps during the current test.
  • BLAST is still early enough that mechanics and balancing can change significantly, yet the fundamental pitch is refreshingly straightforward: fast hero-shooter matches without asking players to reserve half their phone for the privilege.

Krafton and developer Ashforge Game are testing BLAST: Gun Shooting Game 5v5 on Android in India, and the most interesting part may be how aggressively the project is targeting ordinary phones rather than flagship hardware. BLAST is a five-versus-five hero shooter focused on Team Deathmatch, with ten heroes, 14 weapons and matches designed to last roughly five to eight minutes.

Each hero combines conventional gunplay with a signature ability and an ultimate, but the developers say shooting remains the primary focus rather than abilities replacing weapon skill. The download is under 200MB, an unusually modest footprint for a modern competitive shooter, and its Google Play listing says the game is designed to maintain roughly 45 to 60 frames per second even on Android hardware using Snapdragon 4-series chips. Higher-end devices can reportedly reach up to 120fps during the current test.

Three maps are included in the beta. The India-first approach makes sense for a game emphasising small downloads and broad hardware compatibility, particularly in a market where mobile shooters have enormous audiences but device capabilities vary widely. BLAST is still early enough that mechanics and balancing can change significantly, yet the fundamental pitch is refreshingly straightforward: fast hero-shooter matches without asking players to reserve half their phone for the privilege.
