Goddess of Victory: NIKKE has revealed its Little Witch Trick update, due October 8, with Shift Up preparing the mobile shooter for Halloween using the traditional ingredients of pumpkins, costumes and heavily armed anime characters. The headline addition is SSR Belorta: Pumpkin Witch, accompanied by a new Halloween story event, limited costumes and additional activities. Players will also get a Cinderella Special, new side-story material, a Halloween-themed Outpost and further high-level content.
NIKKE has become particularly effective at treating its updates as miniature entertainment seasons rather than simple character drops, mixing narrative chapters, events, costumes and progression systems so there is usually something to do even if the latest gacha banner refuses to cooperate with basic probability.
The Halloween theme is hardly revolutionary in mobile live services - October is the month when virtually every digital world suddenly discovers pumpkins - but NIKKE's elaborate character presentation makes seasonal events unusually visible. The update lands in two days, giving players just enough time to inspect their currency reserves and begin negotiating with whatever supernatural entity controls random-number generators. Given the theme, perhaps that is deliberate.
