Kabam has revealed WB All-Star Mayhem, an upcoming free-to-play mobile idle RPG that brings together characters from nine Warner Bros. animated franchises. The game will begin limited regional testing during November on iOS and Android, although a worldwide release date remains unannounced. More than 100 characters are planned for the launch roster, including Batman, Superman, Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, Finn and Jake.
The participating franchises include Justice League Unlimited, Adventure Time, Looney Tunes, Teen Titans Go!, Animaniacs, Scooby-Doo, Steven Universe, Samurai Jack and The Powerpuff Girls. The story revolves around Brain from Pinky and the Brain, who obtains a Universal Remote capable of controlling different television worlds. Naturally, somebody with his particular ambitions immediately decides that conquering the multiverse would be a sensible use of modern entertainment technology.
Players assemble teams of recognisable heroes and villains to challenge the resulting chaos. The project is being developed under licence from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, with Kabam bringing experience from Marvel Contest of Champions. That experience could prove valuable when managing a large collection of characters with different abilities, visual identities and fan expectations.
The major challenge will be making the crossover feel like a coherent game rather than an elaborate catalogue of familiar intellectual properties. Limited regional testing should provide an early indication of how the idle progression systems and combat mechanics perform. Apparently television's greatest crossover event now requires Batman to cooperate with a talking rabbit while a laboratory mouse attempts to conquer absolutely everything.
