THEC64 Handheld and The Spectrum Handheld bring 8-bit nostalgia to portable play
Funstock has opened pre-orders for new C64 and Spectrum-inspired handhelds with built-in games, IPS screens and microSD support.
Retro handheld collectors have two new nostalgia machines to track: THEC64 Handheld and The Spectrum Handheld. Funstock’s listings show both devices as pre-order products, with standard models at £109.99 and collector editions at £129.99. The C64 model is described as a clamshell reinterpretation of the classic home computer, with 25 built-in C64 games, an 800x480 IPS screen, stereo speakers, headphone support and a microSD slot for adding more games.
The Spectrum version follows the same portable idea for another classic 8-bit audience. These are not general Android handhelds and they are not trying to compete with Steam Deck-style PC devices. They are focused retro products built around licensed nostalgia, tactile design and curated libraries.
For mobile hardware coverage, they are interesting because they show how the handheld market keeps splitting into different lanes: high-end PC portables, phone controllers, Android emulation devices and officially branded retro machines.
