Steam Controller sells out fast as Valve opens the door for accessory makers
Valve’s new Steam Controller is already supply-constrained, while released CAD files could help accessory makers build mounts, holders and custom add-ons.
Valve’s new Steam Controller is already showing strong demand, with the controller selling out faster than expected and Valve saying more resupply information is coming. For mobile and handheld players, the controller is interesting because it is not just a living-room PC accessory. Paired with Steam Link and phone mounts, it can turn a phone into a lightweight streaming screen for PC gaming.
Valve also shared CAD files for the controller and puck shells, which could help accessory makers build better mounts, grips, holders and desk setups around the device. That may sound niche, but it matters in the handheld ecosystem. The Steam Deck showed how much an accessory community can extend a device’s life. If the Steam Controller gets the same treatment, it could become a useful bridge between PC, couch, handheld and phone-based streaming play.
