Valve opens Steam Controller reservations after a rapid sell-out
Valve’s new Steam Controller sold out quickly, and a new reservation system is opening for players who missed the first wave.
Valve’s new Steam Controller has moved from launch curiosity to supply problem very quickly. Tom’s Hardware reports that the controller sold out in around 30 minutes after launch, with Valve opening a new reservation system at 10 AM PT today. For pure mobile players, this might sound like PC hardware news, but it connects directly to the growing phone-as-screen ecosystem. With Steam Link, a good controller and the right mount, a phone can become a lightweight remote-play handheld for a gaming PC.
That is why the Steam Controller matters beyond the living room. It is part of the same trend as Backbone, Razer Kishi, Steam Deck and Windows handhelds: players want their libraries to move with them. If Valve can keep stock moving and accessory makers support it well, the controller could become a useful bridge between PC, handheld and phone streaming.
