Nintendo confirms Switch 2 price increases as handheld costs keep rising
Nintendo has announced product and service price revisions, with Switch 2 moving to $499.99 in the US from September and Japan changes starting in May.
Nintendo has confirmed a new round of price revisions, and the Switch 2 is now part of the wider hardware-cost story hitting gaming. In the US, Nintendo of America says the Switch 2 MSRP will rise from $449.99 to $499.99 from 1 September 2026. Nintendo’s corporate notice also confirms broader product and service price revisions, with Japan changes taking effect earlier. For handheld gaming, this is significant because Switch 2 sits at the center of the mass-market portable console space.
If even Nintendo has to move pricing upward, it reinforces what players are seeing across the hardware market: memory, components, tariffs and supply-chain pressure are making gaming devices harder to keep cheap. The practical advice is simple. Anyone already planning to buy a Switch 2 may want to watch regional price-change dates carefully.
