Steam Controller reservation queue keeps remote-play phone setups relevant
Valve’s Steam Controller queue remains open after the controller sold out quickly, giving Steam Link and phone-mount users a fairer shot at the hardware.
Valve’s new Steam Controller is still one of the more useful hardware stories for mobile players because it connects directly to Steam Link. The controller sold out quickly, and Valve has now moved to a reservation queue designed to give eligible Steam accounts a fairer chance to buy one. For phone-based play, the use case is clear: pair the controller with Steam Link and a mount, and your phone becomes a lightweight remote-play handheld for your PC library.
It is not yet a perfect universal iOS or Android controller, but as part of the Steam ecosystem it has a real role. The important thing is that Valve is not treating the controller like a one-off accessory. Between Steam Deck, Steam Controller, Steam Machine and Steam Frame, the company is building a portable-and-couch ecosystem where mobile screens can still act as flexible endpoints.
