Steam Controller stays relevant for phone-based Steam Link play as reservations continue
Valve’s Steam Controller reservation queue remains a useful story for mobile players using phones as Steam Link screens and remote-play endpoints.
Valve’s new Steam Controller continues to matter for mobile players because Steam Link makes phones part of the PC gaming chain. The controller sold out quickly after launch, and Valve’s reservation queue is now the cleaner way for eligible Steam accounts to get in line. The mobile use case is simple: pair the controller, mount a phone, stream from your PC and you have a lightweight remote-play handheld without buying a full Steam Deck or Windows handheld.
It is not a universal mobile controller in the Backbone or Razer Kishi sense, but inside the Steam ecosystem it has a strong purpose. As more players split time between PC, couch, handheld and phone screens, controllers like this become connective tissue rather than just accessories.
