FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition turns phones into controllers for Netflix’s World Cup play
Netflix Games and FIFA are launching FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition on June 11, letting players use phones as controllers while the TV becomes the stadium.
FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition is one of today’s biggest mobile-adjacent announcements because it uses the phone in a different way: not just as the screen, but as the controller. Netflix Games and FIFA are bringing the title to Netflix on June 11, with all 48 FIFA World Cup 2026 teams, 1,248 players and 16 tournament stadiums included. The setup is designed for smart-TV play: launch the game, scan a QR code with your phone, then use swipes to pass and shoot.
That makes it more of a living-room party football experience than a traditional mobile football sim. It also gives Netflix Games something with serious mass-market potential during World Cup season. The key question is whether the simplified controls create instant fun or become too shallow after a few matches. But as a World Cup companion game, the concept is smart, social and very easy to understand.
