The arrival of Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris and the newly announced mobile edition of Absolum underline a notable 2026 trend: substantial premium games are returning to smartphones without being rebuilt around free-to-play economies. Feral Interactive's Lara Croft release lets users sample the opening level before a one-time purchase, while Playdigious plans a straightforward premium version of Absolum with no energy timers or gacha systems.

Modern flagship phones and tablets now offer processing performance that makes ports of console and PC games increasingly practical, while controller support removes many of the control compromises that previously limited mobile adaptations. Cloud saves and cross-progression also make a phone another place to continue playing rather than an isolated version of the same game.

Free-to-play will remain dominant in mobile revenue, but premium releases serve a different audience: players who want complete games without recurring monetisation pressure. The strongest ports increasingly treat mobile as another serious gaming platform rather than a promotional side market.
