iPhone Duo continues to dominate the global foldable conversation

Apple's iPhone Duo remains the biggest mobile hardware story of the week. The company's first foldable uses a 5.4-inch exterior display that opens into a 7.6-inch internal screen, runs on the A20 Pro processor and supports Apple Pencil. Touch ID is integrated into the side button rather than Face ID, while split-screen multitasking gives the larger display a more tablet-like role. Pricing begins at $1,999, with pre-orders scheduled later and retail availability in October.

Apple is entering foldables years after Samsung, Huawei and other manufacturers, but its arrival could significantly expand consumer awareness of the category. Foldables still represent only a small percentage of global smartphone sales, so Apple's biggest impact may be growing the total market rather than immediately stealing existing users. The more important question is whether developers optimise applications well enough to justify the extra cost and complexity.
