watchOS 27 is one day away from supported Apple Watches

Apple will release watchOS 27 tomorrow, September 14, alongside iOS 27. The update supports Apple Watch Series 9 and later, Apple Watch SE 3 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later when paired with compatible iPhones. Apple Intelligence becomes a more prominent part of the wearable experience, while health and fitness functionality continues to expand. The software launch is strategically important because it arrives several days before Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 reach retail customers on September 18.

Existing users therefore get part of the new experience before the new hardware arrives, making it easier to distinguish features that genuinely require new sensors or processors from those delivered through software alone. Smartwatch competition increasingly revolves around this combination of long-term OS support, health interpretation and ecosystem integration rather than raw hardware specifications. WatchOS 27 is therefore as important to Apple's wearable strategy as the new watches themselves.
