Huawei Mate XT2 enters its first weekend on sale

Huawei's Mate XT2 is spending its first weekend on sale in China after retail availability began September 12. The second-generation tri-fold device expands twice into a tablet-sized display and uses Huawei's new Kirin 9050 Pro processor. Huawei has also highlighted a redesigned folding mechanism, greater water resistance, improved cameras and an optional privacy-oriented display. Pricing starts at 19,999 yuan and rises to 24,999 yuan, firmly placing the XT2 in ultra-premium territory.

The timing is particularly interesting because Apple's iPhone Duo has now formally entered the foldable market, while Xiaomi is pushing its own premium Fold line. Huawei already holds a powerful position in China's foldable segment, so the XT2 is not merely a technology demonstration. First-weekend sales will provide an early indication of how much consumer demand exists for the most complex multi-fold form factor once novelty is translated into a very high retail price.
