Siri AI finally moves from promise to public beta

After years of increasingly capable generative AI rivals, Apple is beginning the public rollout of its redesigned Siri today through iOS 27. Siri AI launches in beta and initially focuses on English-language devices, with more languages planned from October. Apple's strategy is to make the assistant more useful through personal context and deeper awareness of information already available on the device rather than relying entirely on generic internet answers. That creates an opportunity and a privacy challenge.

A genuinely useful assistant needs access to messages, calendars, photos and other personal information, so Apple is continuing to emphasise on-device processing and privacy-oriented architecture. The beta designation is significant: Apple is effectively asking millions of mainstream users to test an AI assistant inside a production operating system.

How reliably Siri handles everyday requests over the next few weeks may have a larger impact on public perception of Apple Intelligence than any benchmark comparison with standalone chatbots.
