AirPods 5 pre-orders continue ahead of September 18 availability

Apple's AirPods 5 remain on pre-order ahead of their September 18 release. The new generation introduces a redesigned acoustic architecture, updated Adaptive EQ and improved active noise cancellation in Apple's open-ear format. Apple claims the ANC model can remove substantially more external noise than AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, while the wireless-charging version adds longer battery life and a stem-based volume swipe.

The earbuds are increasingly important to Apple's AI strategy as well as its audio business. Paired with Siri AI and an iPhone, AirPods provide a hands-free interface through which users can access contextual assistance without looking at a screen. That could make earbuds one of the most natural ways to interact with personal AI throughout the day.

The challenge is reliability: voice-first computing only becomes genuinely useful when recognition, connectivity and battery life are dependable enough that reaching for the phone is no longer easier.
