Qualcomm and Samsung push AI beyond phones into watches and eyewear

Samsung's latest Galaxy ecosystem demonstrates how rapidly mobile computing is expanding beyond the smartphone. Qualcomm supplies Snapdragon platforms across Samsung's Fold8 family, Watch9 generation and intelligent eyewear, with the companies emphasising context-aware AI that can move between devices. This cross-device approach matters because no single piece of hardware has all the information or sensors required for a truly personal assistant.

A watch can continuously gather health and movement context, glasses understand what the user is looking at, and the phone provides connectivity, applications and substantial processing power. The commercial battle is therefore becoming ecosystem versus ecosystem rather than phone versus phone. Apple's September launches show the same trend from the opposite side. For consumers, deeper integration can make devices much more useful together, but it also increases platform lock-in.

Moving from one manufacturer to another becomes harder when the value lies in years of data and several accessories working as a coordinated system.
